On paper, the story sounds painfully dreary: a guy gets dumped, he mopes around, drifts through the city streets, buys a bottle of liquor at a bodega, lifts a lighter at the counter, smokes a stranger’s discarded cigarette butt, and, mostly, just sulks and sulks and sulks.
But on screen it somehow feels atmospheric, like a random fragment lifted straight out of an A24 film. That has a lot to do with Joe Keery, who turns in a perfectly weary performance as the video’s titular loser. If you’re sharp-eyed, you’ll also catch a blink‑and‑you‑miss‑it cameo from Kevin Parker himself, the mastermind behind Tame Impala briefly steps in as Keery’s double.
The video arrives amid growing rumors that a long‑awaited new Tame Impala album (the first since 2020) is imminent. There’s still no official announcement, but speculation has been swirling since July, when Parker ended a long silence with the release of the ‘End of Summer’ clip.
