Alright, let’s break this down. Years have passed, yet we keep coming back to this question. Now, with The Veilguard, there’s a new contender, and honestly, I’m not sure I’m ready to dive into this all over again.
SOLAS: GENIUS OR MANIPULATOR?
On one hand, yes, he’s intelligent, charismatic, and full of mystery. On the other—he’s the guy who, if left unchecked, would literally tear the world apart just because he decided it should be that way. Sure, he has his reasons, and yes, he’s suffering, but that doesn’t change the fact that he first plays the role of your best friend (or worse, your boyfriend) and then—surprise!—turns out to be the very god you’ve been fighting against all along. And we’re still debating whether he’s good or not?
CULLEN: RELIABLE, BUT NOT WITHOUT FLAWS
Cullen is a different story. A man who genuinely grew beyond his past. In Origins, he was that templar who hated mages. In DA2, he was struggling, but at least he tried to stay reasonable (which, in Kirkwall, was an achievement on its own). By Inquisition, he had become someone who, unlike certain people (Solas, I’m looking at you), didn’t run from his problems but faced them head-on. From a character growth perspective—solid. But here’s the question: if he didn’t have his personal battle with addiction, would he still be as compelling?
LUCANIS: STILL UNCLEAR, BUT PROMISING
A walking dilemma. For starters, he has a presence that makes you stop and listen. He’s not Solas, who overwhelms you with intellect, nor Cullen, who wins through sheer resilience. Lucanis is playing on the edge, and the real question is: how far is he willing to go?
THE VERDICT? WHO KNOWS
For now, Solas remains the greatest traitor in the series, Cullen the most reliable ally, and Lucanis the wildcard.
So… whose side are you on?
